Campers take the stage in this unique musical theater camp that emphasizes collaboration and self-expression, and builds the self-confidence required for a successful transition to high school. Campers work under the guidance of talented teachers and theater professionals to bring a Broadway Jr. musical to life.
Campers learn to:
Campers may audition for additional enrichment in dance and music, and may participate if selected at no additional fee. Campers’ creative work culminates with a full-scale production that is shared with family and friends during camp’s final week.
In our Musical Theater program, campers are cast for roles in a Broadway Jr. musical. Campers work together with our teaching artists to try on different roles, and then prepare a monologue and a short song for an audition. This experience presents a perfect opportunity for campers who will be trying out for a performing arts high school or college.
PAC emphasizes the importance of all roles in a musical and we teach our campers to commit to their character, no matter the size of their part. There are no “small roles” at camp. Campers also have the chance to explore areas of interest behind the scenes include costume and set design.
Camp is life-changing! We have fun at PAC, and our supportive approach inspires the commitment and dedication of our campers.
Every day of Performing Arts Camp offers a mixture of scheduled and free-choice activities. Campers connect at the morning meeting, and then they travel with their camp groups through an exciting rotation of indoor and outdoor periods.
Sample schedule:
Recreational Play includes outdoor activities such as water games, jump rope, freeze dance, tag, obstacle courses, and visits to Prospect Park.
Choice Time lets campers build independence by making decisions about their day. Each morning, they can select to try a new activity or to stick with an old favorite. Popular choice offerings have included bracelet making, yoga, origami, tap dancing, mandala design, Hamilton dance, frisbee, slime-making, board games, and hand lettering.
Enrichment Periods are available to 4th-9th grade campers. These auditioned-based programs are offered to campers who seek additional instruction in dance or instrumental music.
Share Time is a weekly activity that campers fondly anticipate! Each Friday afternoon, camp groups share the progress they’ve made toward their final performances in drama, dance, or instrumental.
